Description:
The slurry route to HDPE was the dominant process prior to the introduction of the gas phase process in the early 1980s and with it, the introduction of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and the concept of the “swing” LLDPE/HDPE process. The claim of the swing process was a process technology that was capable of giving the producer a full range of polyethylene, with LLDPE to replace LDPE and gas phase HDPE to be positioned against slurry‐based HDPE. The “swing” plant concept was to drive polyethylene technology developments for the following 20 years, with the result that virtually all LLDPE technologies are capable of producing HDPE. This desire to offer the “full range” in the marketplace similarly led to the dominant HDPE slurry loop technology adding LLDPE capability due to its metallocene catalyst developments.Usage in life:
LLDPE is being used in extrusion coating applications where it helps protect the contents of liquid containers, primarily for paper and paperboard packaging. Non‐food packaging applications are requiring stronger films such as consumer, industrial and agricultural uses.- Plant Capacity: 300 KTA
